The Captives - "In The Cobalt Twilight"

Rising from the ashes of Echo Chamber, The Captives boast a similar '80's - inflected Anglophile sound of gently processed guitars, keyboards and meloncholy - at times overwrought - vocals. Composer and guitarist Eddie Lebario's music is unfailingly melodic, while singer Tom Laman's obsessive lyrics belie the sweetness of the tunes. His voice soars and dips to great effect, but a violent streak - "I'm going to push you in the street," among other similar lines - should be a warning to any potential paramours entranced by his serenades. (B) - Thomas Bond
